Work Practice
These paper entomology artworks are made using paper pieces that have been hand cut with a scalpel and individually pinned into place. The coloured designs are made from vintage hand marbled paper. These papers are very precious and date back as far as the late 19th Century. They were made by highly skilled craftsmen using pigments and techniques that have since been lost. The butterflies and insects with handwriting on have been cut from letters written during the 1880's.

About
Helen Ward is a Bristol based, freelance designer/illustrator. Helen has exhibited in many places around Bristol and is currently being represented by the Cube Gallery. In 2007 she was invited to participate in the Paper Works exhibition at Bury City Gallery in Lancashire.
